34^th EUCOCO OBJECTIVES

FOR THE SELF-DETERMINATION AND INDEPENDENCE OF WESTERN SAHARA UNITED NATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES.

EUCOCO. BASICS OF THE CONFERENCE

The European Conference of Coordination Support to the Sahrawian People (EUCOCO) has been organized since the first years of the conflict and, on a yearly basis with no interruptions it has been hold in several European cities.

This Conference gathers representatives of the Committees and Associations, of local bodies and twin regions, the diverse NGO’s, trade unions, cooperatives, volunteer organizations and the diverse European parliamentary inter-groups… working for the just cause of the Sahrawian People’s freedom, and helping them to survive day by day in this tough wait which has already lasted for more than 30 years.

The highest representatives of the Sahrawian Government will participate in this Conference, normally the president of the RASD himself and several members of his Government, as well as representatives of the POLISARIO Front.

Nowadays, the Conference reaches beyond the European borders, notably the wide participation of institutional and social representatives from all the continents, especially the African representatives, and that is why we can refer to it as an International Conference, rather than an European one.

Last conferences were held at Vitoria-Gasteiz (2006), Rome (2007), and this year at Valencia.

            The EUCOCO works in 3 different areas of concern:

-         In the Sahrawian area, by the Sahrawian delegation in Europe

-         In the political field, by the Federación de Instituciones Solidarias con el Sáhara (Federation of Institutions for Solidarity with the Western Sahara)

-         In the field of solidarity, by the European Coordinating Committee of Friendly Asociations with the Sahrawian People.

This event has 4 distinct objectives:

-         To be a space for reflection, coordination and planning for the solidarity actions with the Sahrawian People.

-         To be a space for discussion and exchange for all of those interested in adding new ideas and projects, or learning from them.

-         Being an open window and an amplifier of the widespread solidarity movement related to the Sahrawian struggle, and of the struggle itself. 

-         To make people aware of the actual conditions in the Western Sahara conflict.

THE XXXIV EUROCOCO CONFERENCE 2008

The election of Valencia to hold this important Congress is due to the long cooperation story and widespread held the solidarity movements with the Sahrawian People have shown in the Valencian Region and the support of all the political forces and regional institutions.

The following institutions will be directly compromised in the organization of this international event:

-         European representatives of the Sahrawian People in Europe, Spain and the POLISARIO Front in Valencia.

-         European Coordinating Committee of Friendly Associations with the Sahrawian People

 (TASK-FORCE)

-         Spanish Federation of Solidarity Institutions with the Sahara (FEDISSAH)

-         Estate Coordinating Committee of Solidarity Associations with the Sahara (CEAS-SAHARA), which includes FASPS P.V.

The assistance and participation at the Conference, in addition to  the Sahrawian social and political authorities, of members of the parliament (from the European, State and Regional Parliaments), mayors and town councillors of several town councils, representatives of the different associative movements of help to the Sahrawian People and eminent international personalities are expected.

The Conference should rely on great social support, but essentially it has to play an important propagandistic role, trying to spread information about the Sahara all around Valencia, and making the city a reference for the struggle of the Sahrawian People these days. That is why cultural activities will also be held publically, open to all the citizens.
